caring for your bagels

Caring for your bagels is easy and a little attention goes a long way.

Bagels are best fresh the day they're baked.

here are some tips to help them stay fresh so you can enjoy them longer.

Storing your bagels

PAPER BAG (day 1-2)

When you pick up your order, you'll notice your bagels come in a paper bag - there's a reason! Bagels are boiled before they're baked, so they hold onto a lot of moisture. When you put bagels into a paper bag, excess moisture in the form of steam is absorbed by the bag and helps keep the bagels' crust taut. Bagels keep fresh for the first 2 days in a paper bag.

PLASTIC SLEEVE (day 2-4)

You'll also find a plastic bag inside with your bagels. We recommend putting your excess bagels into this plastic bag after they've completely cooled and had time to sweat out excess moisture. General rule of thumb is before you go to bed on day 2, slip your bagels into their sleeve and let them rest wherever you store your bread.

FREEZING BAGELS
Bagels freeze extremely well. If you know you aren't going to eat all of your bagels fresh and want to freeze some for later, place them on a sheet tray and freeze them for 3-4 hours. Then slip frozen bagels into the plastic sleeve or freezer zip bag and they'll keep for up to a month.

REVIVING YOUr BAGELS

THE MAGIC TRICK

Because bagels are boiled before they're baked, a little water + heat at home can revive them and make them feel freshly baked again.

FROM ROOM TEMP (1-3 days old)

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Take your bagels and quickly run them under running water, or lightly mist them with a spray bottle. You don't want them dripping, just lightly wet on the outside.

  3. Place your bagels directly on the oven rack or sheet tray for cheesy bagels.

  4. Bake for 5-7 minutes, until the crust feels crisp and the bagels are warmed through.

  5. Let them cool for a minute or two, then enjoy.

FROM THE FREEZER

You have two options.

Option 1: Thaw, then reheat (best texture, takes a little patience)

  1. Take your bagels out of the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature (~30 minutes).

  2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Once thawed, run them quickly under running water or mist them with a spray bottle. You don't want them dripping, just lightly wet on the outside.

  4. Bake directly on the wire rack for 5-7 minutes (sheet tray for cheesy bagels), until the crust feels crisp and the bagel is warmed through.

  5. Let cool for a minute or two, then enjoy.

Option 2: Straight from the freezer (you're hungry, NOW)

  1. Preheat our oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Lightly wet your bagels by running them under water or mist them with a spray bottle. You don't want them dripping, just lightly wet on the outside.

  3. Bake directly on the wire rack (sheet tray for cheesy bagels) for 8-10 minutes, until the crust is crisp and the inside if hot.

  4. Let cool for a minute or two, then enjoy.
